Called simply "Space Gun" on its box, this small 8 1/2 inch rifle is a fascinating example of the connection (or confusion) between space and western themes that often occurred on early Japanese toy ray guns. Since popular images of space adventure often understood it in terms of tales of the wild West, western images frequently appeared side-by-side with space images on Japanese space toys. This rifle is a good example. Sporting images of an indian on the stock and bullets in the magazine, this space rifle represents an amalgamation of space and cowboy ideas.
